Harlem Cares – A perfect New Year’s Resolution

If you are in Harlem, or NYC for that matter and you are thinking of making to changes in your life for the new year and beyond. I recommend that you take a look at coming to the next Harlem Cares Informational Meeting. Harlem Cares is in conjunction with National Cares Mentoring Movement (formerly Essence Cares), a national organization driven to attaining capable mentors to match with inner city youth around the country.

The reason why Harlem Cares (and National Cares Mentoring Movement) is the best that I have seen in some time is the fact that they find exactly what type of mentoring your are interested in before matching you with a mentee. This is very crucial to the retainment of mentors, because like they said “it is a year long commitment with a defined beginning and end.”

Many times people want to volunteer, but they are mistaken in the attitude of excitement or the response of the young person. This program works to let the adult know that the attitude of disinterest that you might face initially doesn’t mean that you are a bad mentor, it means that the child may have a history of “revolving door relationship” and is looking for something stable. Harlem Cares offers monthly meeting for the mentor to speak about any questions or concerns that they may be going through, and also provides an opportunity to meet with other mentors to share stories and work on what they need to work on to be a better influence to that specific young person.

Everyone’s reason to be a mentor may be different, but I recommend that everyone takes a serious look at this organization because they can match you up perfectly with an organization that best fits you. And with it being a year long commitment, it is a perfect New year’s resolution for 2010. Bigger than that though, it can change the life of a young person in your community!

Understanding that there are many people in the state of transition right now because of the recent recession in the economy and the crisis that hit everyone and everything in its wake, this book gives a template for the person that is looking to cash in on the changing landscape of advertising and internet marketing by establishing a personal brand and participating in work that you are passionate about (which is something that people sometimes forget is the most important thing in life).

“Crush It!” is very highly recommended by me and I have already personally passed it on to everyone in my personal circle. I think that as soon as you read it, you will do the same.
